In 2009, Curtin University of Technology (Curtin) identified the requirement to migrate their existing staff and student desktop environment to a central and managed operating environment (MOE). The new desktop, called Desktop 2010, would apply to all campuses in Australia and overseas, and both the Windows and Mac devices. In Q1 2010, ZettaServe used their knowledge and experience to develop a suitable design and specification for Desktop 2010, including the following components:

• Windows 7 Managed Operating Environment (MOE)
• System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (ConfigMgr) design
• Active Directory design
• Group Policy design
• Application Virtualisation (Microsoft App-V) Full Infrastructure design
• Apple Mac OS X Managed Operating Environment (MOE)
• Quest Management Xtensions design
• Deploy Studio design
• Application Packaging Standards Specification for Windows Installer (MSI), App-V and Mac OS X Packages

The engagement also included three days of onsite Windows Installer (MSI) and App-V packaging training for Curtin IT staff, and the creation of a test lab based on the design components, to be used by Curtin for initial MOE design prototyping and application package testing.

ZettaServe used its standardised MOE migration methodology based on industry best practices and standards, ensuring components of the new MOE are re-useable should Curtin decide to change their systems in future. The total benefits received by Curtin are:
